Amnesty International Toronto will be participating in Toronto Pride 2017! The group will have a booth at the Pride street fair. The booth will run on Saturday June 24th and Sunday June 25th from 10:30am to 6:00pm. We will be distributing materials, having petitions signed, and answering any human rights questions. The petitions that we will promoting include: An action on the situation in Chechnya, promoting equality in Japan, protecting a trans activist in Venezuela, and removing the safe third country status of the United States in the Canadian refugee process. We are currently looking for volunteers to help staff the booth. Volunteer shifts will run in two hour blocks from 10:00am to 6:30pm each day. You are of course welcome to take more than one volunteer block.
We will also be marching in the Pride Parade on Sunday June 25th. The theme for Amnesty International’s presentation will be a call to protect refugees in Canada. We will have many colourful signs, banners, etc. Marchers will also receive a human rights defender t-shirt.
Please email LGBTI Coordinator George Harvey at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in marching or volunteering at the street fair booth. Details of the meeting time and location will be emailed to interested volunteers as soon as they become available.
