WHEN: Sunday May 26th, 12noon – 5pm

WHERE: Kensington Market, corner of Oxford and Augusta

Earth Defenders in Latin America are under attack and we are asking your support in defending them! On Sunday May 26th, the AI Toronto Business and Human Rights + Indigenous Rights Group will be at Pedestrian Sundays in Kensington Market to promote our actions for Earth Land and Water Defenders in Latin America and specifically for Honduras.

Our Amnesty volunteers will be there for the whole event which runs from 12:00pm-5:00pm. If you are interested in volunteering at this event with us please email: amnestytoronto.bhr.ir@gmail.com to indicate which times you are available to help with and to learn more about what you can do!

We hope to see you there!

People who speak up to defend air, water, land and forests are seeking to protect the rights and well being of their communities. They play a crucial role for the environment and all who depend on it.

Yet earth defenders are being “rewarded” with a terrifying increase in threats, attacks and killings. Indigenous peoples and racial minorities face the greatest danger. Women earth defenders face gender specific aggression, including sexual violence and threats against their children.

Research shows Latin America is the most dangerous region in the world to defend land, Indigenous rights and the environment.
